Basketball Game Preview: Grundy Golden Wave vs. Honaker Tigers

Grundy hasn't had much luck against Honaker recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Grundy Golden Wave will be playing at home against the Honaker Tigers at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Last Friday, Grundy humbled Hurley with a 65-35 victory.

Meanwhile, Honaker waltzed into their game on Wednesday with 19 straight wins... but they left with 20. They breezed past the Warriors to the tune of 61-10. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 56th, while the Warriors are ranked 297th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Grundy better keep an eye on Alayna McNulty. She was instrumental in Honaker's win, dropping a double-double with 21 points and 15 boards. That's the most rebounds McNulty has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Cadence Rose, who went 5-for-6 to rack up 12 points along with six boards and three steals.

Honaker pushed their record up to 21-1 with the victory, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.0 points over those games. As for Grundy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season.

Grundy was dealt a bruising 61-30 loss at the hands of Honaker in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of McNulty, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
