Softball Recap: Sacred Heart-Griffin Cyclones vs. Quincy Blue Devils

Sacred Heart-Griffin lost against Quincy back in May of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Cyclones fell 8-4 to the Blue Devils. The Cyclones have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Addie Malek was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Malek wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maggie Wichmann, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Sacred Heart-Griffin's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Quincy, their record is now 12-19.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sacred Heart-Griffin will host Carrollton at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cyclones 3.5, the Hawks 1.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Quincy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Glenwood at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
