Baseball Recap: Downingtown West's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

Downingtown West had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against the Bayard Rustin Golden Knights by a score of 8-4 on Wednesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Whippets also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Stephen Furia made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Furia was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Furia wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was James Posner, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. Another was Luke Dovidio, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Downingtown West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Downingtown West's win bumped their record up to 3-10. As for Bayard Rustin, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.

Coincidentally, Downingtown West and Bayard Rustin will both be playing Sun Valley the next time they take the field. The Golden Knights will host the Vanguards at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Whippets will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
