Basketball Recap: Ridgeland Snaps 15-Game Streak of Wins at Home

After a string of five wins, Ridgeland's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell 70-62 to the Columbus Falcons. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (60), the Titans still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Ridgeland still got an impressive performance from Phil Nelson, who went 9 for 19 on his way to 29 points. Nelson's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Ashton Manuel was another key player, going 6 for 12 on his way to 15 points.

Ridgeland's loss ended a 15-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-3. As for Columbus, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.

Ridgeland and Columbus should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings. Ridgeland (ranked fourth) will meet Neshoba Central (ranked 63rd) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Ridgeland is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.7 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Columbus (ranked second) will meet Vicksburg (ranked 78th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
