Baseball Recap: Antioch Christian Academy Finds Home Field Redemption Against Sandhills Classical Christian

There's no place like home for Antioch Christian Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They walked away with a 14-11 win over the Sandhills Classical Christian Lions on Monday. With that victory, the Gators brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

Carson Phillips and Joshua Brooks made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Phillips struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Brooks struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off three hits. At bat, Phillips scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Brooks went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Brooks is becoming a predictor of Antioch Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Josiah Jones, who scored four runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. He has become a key player for Antioch Christian Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 0-3 otherwise. Brayden Patterson was another key player, going 2-for-5 with four RBI and one run.

The win got Antioch Christian Academy back to even at 3-3. As for Sandhills Classical Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Antioch Christian Academy wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 14-3 victory against Liberty Christian Academy on the 10th. As for Sandhills Classical Christian, they will challenge Christ the Cornerstone Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Defenders' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Lions' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
