Baseball Recap: Aquilla Triumphs

Aquilla's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They walked away with a 10-6 victory over the Jonesboro Eagles. The high-scoring effort was just what the Cougars needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Ryan Hill was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over 5.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, two doubles, and one run. Aquilla is 2-1 when Hill posts three or more hits, but 1-2 otherwise.

In other batting news, Austin Hines was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Mason Cockrell, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs.

Aquilla always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2025.

The win got Aquilla back to even at 3-3. As for Jonesboro, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Aquilla will host Oglesby at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Jonesboro, they will square off against Coolidge at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Yellowjackets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.5 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
