MaxPreps Top 25 high school football scores: Chaminade-Madonna beats No. 9 St. Thomas Aquinas, 29-22

Keelon Russell, Dakorien Moore lead No. 4 Duncanville to 42-20 win over No. 17 DeSoto.

Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) keeps finding ways to win and pulled out a 29-22 victory over No. 9 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) at Pitbull Stadium on Friday. After trailing 22-15 early in the third quarter the Lions scored the final 14 points.

Four-star junior running back Derrek Cooper had a huge night and tied the game at 22 with his second score of the game late in the third quarter. Camari Hall put the Lions out in front with a three-yard touchdown run with 6:35 left. Recent Central (Miami) transfer Bekkem Kritza got the start at quarterback after transferring from the Rockets earlier this month.

After starting the year 0-2 the Lions have won six in a row and expect to see them back in the MaxPreps Top 25 on Monday.

No. 4 Duncanville (Texas) added another big win to its resume with a 42-20 victory over No. 17 DeSoto (Texas). Five-star Alabama commit Keelon Russell continued his stellar play completing 27 of 36 passes for 427 yards and six touchdowns. Five-star Oregon wideout Dakorien Moore finished with nine receptions for 231 yards and four scores. Jaylyn Manning got a huge one-handed interception in the fourth quarter to give the Panthers back momentum after the Eagles cut the deficit to 35-20.



No. 3 Milton (Ga.) won its 18th straight game with a 42-24 win at Gainesville on Friday. The defending AAAAAAA state champs are idle next week before closing out the season with matchups against Johns Creek (Ga.) and Roswell (Ga.).

No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) won its fourth game against a MaxPreps Top 25 opponent with a 28-6 win over No. 19 Servite (Anaheim) on Friday. The Monarchs did not allow a point until the final minute. They have won every game by at least 11 points and face JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) next week before a huge showdown against No. 2 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) on Oct. 25. 

The Braves went into the fourth quarter against Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) scoreless but scored 13 points in the final six minutes for a 13-0 win. They blocked a punt for a score then freshman quarterback Koa Malau'ulu put the game out of reach with a with a 30-yard touchdown run with 2:37 left. Up next is Servite at SoFi Stadium on Oct. 18.

No. 16 Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.) bounced back with a 23-17 win over JSerra Catholic after a tough 28-24 loss at No. 2 St. John Bosco last week. The Lancers face Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) and Servite (Anaheim, Calif.) before they close out Trinity League action at No. 1 Mater Dei on Nov. 1.

No. 5 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) headlined the four MaxPreps Top 25 teams that played on Thursday. The Gaels cruised to a 49-14 win at Arbor View (Las Vegas) in a matchup of the top two teams in Nevada. Bishop Gorman has won four in a row since a 31-15 loss at No. 1 Mater Dei.

No. 8 North Shore (Houston), No. 13 Buford (Ga.) and No. 24 Centennial (Corona, Calif.) all won big on Thursday too. They combined to outscore their three opponents, 184-14.
