Football Recap: Clay County Bulldogs vs. Whitwell Tigers
With a playoff game on the line, Clay County rose to the challenge on Friday. They came out on top against the Whitwell Tigers by a score of 39-27. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
A big part of Clay County's win came down to the chemistry between Nate Adams and his top target Lance Burchette. Adams threw for 471 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 16.8 yards per attempt while Burchette picked up 303 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Burchette's longest reception was for an incredible 95 yards. A healthy portion of Adams' aerial production (131 yards to be exact) also went to Nolan Adams, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Whitwell's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bennett Mcdougal, who threw for 263 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 85 yards. Mcdougal also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making three total tackles and defending a pass. Adam McDougal was another key receiver, picking up 146 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Clay County's victory bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Whitwell, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.
Clay County will square off against South Pittsburg on Friday. One thing working in South Pittsburg's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last six contests. Whitwell does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
