Soccer Game Preview: Mater Lakes Academy vs. Mater Academy Charter

The Mater Lakes Academy Bears will challenge the Mater Academy Charter Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mater Lakes Academy has nine straight wins, Mater Academy Charter has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

On Wednesday, Mater Lakes Academy sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Sports Leadership & Management.

Meanwhile, Mater Academy Charter might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Downtown Doral an easy 4-1 win. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 346th, while the Dolphins are ranked 98th).

Mater Lakes Academy pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 21 goals over those five games. As for Mater Academy Charter, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.
