Softball Recap: Northwood Makes It Three in a Row at Home

Northwood made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Benton, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Northwood Falcons never let the Benton Tigers get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Thursday. Considering the Falcons have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Devan Ashby made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Mackenzie Jagers was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Stephanie Ramirez, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-3.

Northwood hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most two strikeouts in three consecutive matchups.

Northwood's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Benton, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.

Northwood will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Caddo Magnet at 4:00 p.m. on March 17th. As for Benton, they will face off against Evangel Christian Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
