Softball Recap: St. Martin de Porres Comes Up Short

St. Martin de Porres couldn't beat Lutheran West on Wednesday even though they stacked six runs on them in the second inning. The Lions lost 29-6 to the Longhorns. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Longhorns this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 23-15 back in March.

Lai'Yauna Booker was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Char'Rion Smith, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

St. Martin de Porres' loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Lutheran West, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Martin de Porres will head out to take on Cleveland Heights at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season. As for Lutheran West, they will face off against Trinity at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Longhorns are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
