Baseball Game Preview: Middletown South Eagles vs. Red Bank Catholic Caseys

For the second straight game, Middletown South will face off against Red Bank Catholic. The Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Caseys at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.

On Wednesday, it was close, but Middletown South sidestepped Red Bank Catholic for a 2-1 victory. The two-run effort marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Peter DeNicola spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts set a new season-high mark for him.

At the plate, Middletown South's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brendan Sliva, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double. That double was Sliva's first of the season.

Middletown South's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Red Bank Catholic, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-2.
