Football Recap: Union Academy Cardinals vs. Lincoln Charter Eagles
There's no place like home for Union Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lincoln Charter Eagles on Friday, sneaking past 44-42. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Cardinals considering their ten-point performance the match before.
Union Academy can attribute much of their success to Omar Langlois, who rushed for 100 yards and one TD. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Jaequan Timmons, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Union Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 344 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln Charter only rushed for 195 rushing yards.
Special teams also played a big role in the game for Union Academy, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Timmons, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Despite the defeat, Lincoln Charter saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Braydon Walden threw for 337 yards and four touchdowns while completing 72% of his passes, and also rushed for 111 yards on only 12 carries.
The win got Union Academy back to even at 1-1. As for Lincoln Charter, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Union Academy will square off against Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lincoln Charter, they will face off against SouthLake Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
