Softball Game Preview: Indian Creek Braves vs. Brownstown Central Braves

Indian Creek will venture away from home to take on Brownstown Central at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Indian Creek will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Indian Creek is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: West Vigo, who was ranked 11th at the time (Indian Creek was ranked 21st). The Braves' pitcher stepped up to hand the Vikings a 3-0 shutout on Wednesday.

The result came thanks to Delaney Jones's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kristen Soots was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Brownstown Central came up short against Corydon Central on Thursday and fell 7-3.

Olivia Justice made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Indian Creek's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Brownstown Central, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 6-8.

Brownstown Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Indian Creek has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Brownstown Central, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 strikeouts. Will Indian Creek keep running through batters, or will Brownstown Central buck the trend?

Indian Creek skirted past Brownstown Central 4-3 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Indian Creek since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
