Football Preview: Harlingen Cardinals vs. San Benito Greyhounds
Harlingen and San Benito are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Cardinals will venture away from home to face off against the Greyhounds at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Harlingen has given up an average of 33.4 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Harlingen fought the good fight in their overtime game against Los Fresnos on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 35-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Falcons. The Cardinals were up 14-0 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
Harlingen might have lost, but man, Noah Huerta was a machine: he rushed for 190 yards and three scores.

Harlingen didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Jay Garza, Dayton Mireles, and Davian Renteria picked up one apiece. Renteria is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made nine or more in each of the last five games he's played.
Meanwhile, San Benito didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Veterans Memorial on Friday, but they still walked away with a 28-24 win.
San Benito's victory bumped their record up to 2-7. As for Harlingen, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-6.
Harlingen came up short against San Benito when the teams last played back in November of 2024, falling 22-14. Can the Cardinals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
