Softball Recap: Woodgrove Picks Up 14th Straight Win on the Road

Woodgrove won the last time they faced Freedom and things went their way on Thursday too. The Wolverines were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Eagles. Considering the Wolverines have won four games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Abby Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits.

On the hitting side, Woodgrove let Addie McCullers and Evelyn Barker run wild. McCullers went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs, while Barker scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Barker a new career-high. Ella Robles also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Woodgrove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in eight consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Woodgrove's win was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Freedom, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-5.

Looking ahead, Woodgrove will head out to challenge Briar Woods at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Wolverines' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Freedom, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Battlefield at 6:00 p.m. The Bobcats will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
