Softball Game Preview: Augusta Beavers vs. McDonell Central Macks

Augusta is on a six-game streak of home wins, while McDonell Central is on a seven-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Beavers will welcome the Macks at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Tuesday, Augusta made easy work of Black River Falls and carried off a 13-2 win.

Laney O'Brien made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Cecelia Schroeder was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Faith Bergman, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Augusta kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, McDonell Central got themselves on the board against Thorp on Tuesday, but Thorp never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Cardinals.

Augusta's victory bumped their record up to 13-1. As for McDonell Central, their win bumped their record up to 12-4.
