Basketball Recap: Eureka Comes Up Short

Eureka lost against Arcata back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Eureka Loggers received a blow as they fell 72-56 to the Arcata Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Loggers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 350th, while the Tigers are ranked 162nd).

When it comes to explaining why Eureka lost, don't look at Will Mooney. Despite the final result, he posted 30 points. The dominant performance gave Mooney a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Trenton Gerber, who had 11 points and three steals.

Eureka's loss dropped their record down to 17-9. As for Arcata, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-5.

Coming up, Eureka will challenge McKinleyville at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Eureka is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.8 points per game this season. Arcata does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
