The Campolindo Cougars will head out to face off against the Amador Valley Dons at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Campolindo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Campolindo took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Encinal.
Campolindo got a great performance from Dom Caruso as he pitched 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits.
At the plate, Miles Clayton was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Jonathan Wang also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
While Amador Valley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Arroyo on Tuesday as Amador Valley made off with a 15-2 win. The victory was just business as usual for Amador Valley, who after four games remain undefeated this season.
Brennan Baptist tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kade Robertson, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Gavin Colombo, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Amador Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Campolindo's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Amador Valley, their record now sits at 4-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Campolindo has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Amador Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
