Baseball Recap: Benjamin Triumphs

Benjamin proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by eight) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Gulliver Prep Raiders. The Buccaneers haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

CJ Soto made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Benjamin is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise. Soto was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

In other pitching news, Ryan Smith looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

Soto wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Johnny Havlicek, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

The victory got Benjamin back to even at 8-8. As for Gulliver Prep, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-8.

Looking ahead, Benjamin will challenge Dwyer at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Buccaneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Gulliver Prep, they are taking a road trip to take on Olympian at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Raiders' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
