Preview: Nixon-Smiley Mustangs vs. Luling Eagles

Nixon-Smiley and Luling are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Luling Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Nixon-Smiley will be strutting in after a victory while Luling will be coming in after a loss.

Nixon-Smiley can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Great Hearts Northern Oaks 55-27 on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Nixon-Smiley has posted since November 30, 2023.

Meanwhile, Luling's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a hard 52-37 fall against Marion. Luling has not had much luck with Marion recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Despite the loss, Luling had strong showings from Natalie Gomez, who scored 12 points along with two steals, and Skylar Dredla, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Evyn Bryant, who scored four points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.

Nixon-Smiley's win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-22. As for Luling, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Nixon-Smiley against Luling in their previous matchup on January 5th as the team secured a 51-21 win. With Nixon-Smiley ahead 30-4 at the half, the game was all but over already.
