Baseball Preview: Classical Purple vs. Scituate Spartans

Classical is 1-6 against Scituate since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Purple will welcome the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

On Tuesday, Classical didn't have quite enough to beat Providence Country Day and fell 4-3. That's two games in a row now that the Purple have lost by just one run.

Allen Espinal was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Espinal was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played.

In other batting news, William Rocchio was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Meanwhile, Scituate lost 9-1 to Narragansett on Wednesday.

This is the second loss in a row for Classical and nudges their season record down to 3-13. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Scituate, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-7.
