Basketball Recap: Dane Duryea's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Anselmo-Merna over Cambridge

Anselmo-Merna lost against Cambridge back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Anselmo-Merna Coyotes took a 39-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cambridge Trojans. The Coyotes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Anselmo-Merna lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Dane Duryea, who posted 11 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. That was a full 34.4% of Anselmo-Merna's points, marking the third time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayden Record, who earned ten points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Anselmo-Merna smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Anselmo-Merna's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Cambridge, they moved to 2-6 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Anselmo-Merna will venture away from home to take on Stuart on January 7, 2025. As for Cambridge, they will head out to face off against Maywood/Hayes Center at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
