Basketball Game Preview: Cedar Catholic Trojans vs. Archbishop Bergan Knights

The Cedar Catholic Trojans will face off against the Archbishop Bergan Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Last Friday, Cedar Catholic lost to Pender on the road by a 52-36 margin. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while the Pendragons are ranked 34th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Archbishop Bergan). They were the clear victor by a 72-51 margin over South Sioux City on Thursday. The Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 21 points or more this season.

Cedar Catholic better focus on containing Gavin Baker and Cale Sheets as the pair were huge in Archbishop Bergan's win. Baker dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds, while Sheets posted 17 points. Those 13 rebounds gave Baker a new career-high. Trey Mooney was another key player, putting up nine points.

Archbishop Bergan pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.5 points per game. As for Cedar Catholic, they now have a losing record at 2-3.

Cedar Catholic came up short against Archbishop Bergan when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 56-47. Can Cedar Catholic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
