Softball Recap: Azle Takes a Loss

Azle fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Granbury on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Granbury Pirates by a score of 12-11. If the Hornets were looking for revenge after losing 4-3 to the Pirates when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Bella Tipton was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Haley Carlson was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and three RBI.

Tipton wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Azle kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since the start of last season.

Azle's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-6-2. As for Granbury, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-8-1.

Coincidentally, Azle and Granbury will both be playing Brewer the next time they take the field. Granbury will head out to face Brewer at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Azle will host them at 7:00 p.m. on March 21st.
