Basketball Recap: Cesar E. Chavez Takes a Loss

Cesar E. Chavez saw some tournament action on Thursday. They had to suffer through a 63-36 loss at the hands of the Davenport Wolves. While losing is never fun, the Lobos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 927th, while the Wolves are ranked 227th).

Despite the loss, Cesar E. Chavez still got an impressive performance from Samad Naylor-Walters, who posted 12 points along with seven boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Cesar E. Chavez smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Davenport only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.

Davenport's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Christian Mckinney led the charge by putting up 15 points and four steals. Mckinney's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Richard Groff was another key player, posting six points along with ten boards and six blocks.

Cesar E. Chavez's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Davenport, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 17-0.

Cesar E. Chavez didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-31 win against Kashmere on the 20th. As for Davenport, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 95-47 loss against Spring Woods on the 20th.
