Preview: Nucla Mustangs vs. Plateau Valley Cowboys

After four games on the road, Nucla is heading back home. They will take on the Plateau Valley Cowboys at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Nucla was handed a three-point loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Telluride on Friday. Nucla breezed by Telluride on the road to the tune of 49-12. That 37 point margin sets a new team best for Nucla this season.

Nucla's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lantry Galley, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Keiran Bray, who scored 11 points along with two steals.

Meanwhile, Plateau Valley had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They came out on top against Soroco by a score of 57-49. 57 seems to be a good number for Plateau Valley as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

Nucla now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Plateau Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.

Nucla came up short against Plateau Valley in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 48-43. Thankfully for Nucla, Kaylee Lang (who scored 13 points along with six assists and two steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
