Basketball Recap: Excel Christian Academy's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Excel Christian Academy came into Friday's matchup having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victor by a 49-24 margin over the Christian Home Educators Knights on Friday. With the Eagles ahead 39-6 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Excel Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Paydan Handlin led the charge by putting up 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lanie Handlin, who posted nine points.

Despite the defeat, Christian Home Educators saw an underclassman step up: freshman Grace Caldwell put up five points in addition to nine boards and seven steals. Those nine rebounds gave Caldwell a new career-high.

Excel Christian Academy's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-11. As for Christian Home Educators, their loss dropped their record down to 5-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Excel Christian Academy will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Trinity Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on February 7th. As for Christian Home Educators, they will head out on the road to challenge Non Varsity Opponent at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
