Softball Recap: Fitzgerald's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Fitzgerald entered their tilt with Cardinal Mooney Catholic on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They blew past the Cardinals 18-1. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won 14 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Lydia Yokel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Fitzgerald let Taylor McCants and Aziya Marks run wild. McCants got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double, while Marks got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most runs McCants has posted since back in May of 2024. Aubrie Stafford was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run.

Fitzgerald's record now sits at 16-9. As for Cardinal Mooney Catholic, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.
