Basketball Game Preview: Gainesville Hurricanes vs. New Smyrna Beach Barracudas

The Gainesville Hurricanes will face off against the New Smyrna Beach Barracudas on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Gainesville comes in on eight and New Smyrna Beach on 14.

Gainesville is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Northeast 54-52.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gainesville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jamison Cardwell, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. Cardwell's big performance that afternoon made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Terry, who posted 14 points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

Meanwhile, New Smyrna Beach was able to grind out a solid victory over Clearwater on Wednesday, taking the game 56-47. Given the Barracudas' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Tornadoes are ranked 66th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

New Smyrna Beach's win bumped their record up to 26-5. As for Gainesville, their victory bumped their record up to 17-8.
