Football Recap: Pearland Oilers vs. Fort Bend Travis Tigers
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Pearland had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed by the Fort Bend Travis Tigers to the tune of 38-0. Considering the Oilers have won eight games by more than 23 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Pearland's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tate Chisolm, who rushed for 108 yards and three touchdowns. Chisolm's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 100 rushing yards. Pearland also got help from Jordan Hernandez, who showed off his sure hands for 150 receiving yards.
Another reason for the win was Pearland's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Jaylen Stewart was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. He also set a new season high mark in total tackles with ten. Another thorn in Fort Bend Travis' side was Anthony Deleon, who picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles.
The victory made it two in a row for Pearland and bumps their season record up to 9-2. As for Fort Bend Travis, they moved to 5-6 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.
