Monte Vista hadn't done well against La Junta recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Pirates won by a set and slipped past the Tigers 2-1. For the Pirates, this counts as revenge for the 2-1 win the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.

Monte Vista got the W, but it wasn't easy, at least in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 28-30, 25-19, 15-11.

La Junta's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Acynn Good-Coates, who had nine digs and two aces, and Mia Whatley, who had eight digs.

Monte Vista's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for La Junta, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Coming up, Monte Vista is taking a road trip to face off against Sanford at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for La Junta, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Hoehne at 4:30 p.m. on September 2.
