Preview: Cummings Cavaliers vs. Jordan-Matthews Jets

Cummings is 10-0 against Jordan-Matthews since February of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Cummings Cavaliers' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Jordan-Matthews Jets at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Cummings was handed a 54-point defeat in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against Southeast Alamance on Wednesday. Cummings narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Southeast Alamance 68-66. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Cummings has posted yet this season.

Cummings' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ja'Kari Dobbins, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 17 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Kway Robertson, who scored 15 points.

Even though Jordan-Matthews has not done well against Seaforth recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Jordan-Matthews came out on top in a nail-biter against Seaforth and snuck past 62-59.

Brennen Oldham continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 20 rebounds. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kelton Fuquay, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.

Cummings' record now sits at 7-5. As for Jordan-Matthews, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season.

Friday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Cummings have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 33.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Jordan-Matthews, though, as they've been averaging only 26.5 rebounds per game. Given Cummings' sizeable advantage in that area, Jordan-Matthews will need to find a way to close that gap.

Cummings skirted past Jordan-Matthews 53-51 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cummings since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
