The Gorham Huskies will take on the Groveton Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Gorham will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Lisbon on Monday. The Huskies were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over the Panthers. The Huskies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by nine runs or more this season.
Kasey Guilmette was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. Guilmette was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Jack Saladino was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Gavin Corrigan was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Groveton). Everything went their way against Pittsburg on Monday as they made off with a 26-3 win. The Eagles have beaten the Panthers the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Panthers has come to flipping the script.
Like Gorham, Groveton also got a great game from a two-way player: Brody Platt. Throwing, Platt pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Meanwhile, Brocton Meunier tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Platt went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Meunier went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs. Those hits marked the first that Platt has got this season.
In other batting news, Konner Shannon and Dylan Simino did most of the damage at the plate: Shannon went a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs, four RBI, and one triple, while Simino went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Kenison, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs.
Groveton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .745. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Gorham pushed their record up to 6-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Groveton, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Gorham took their victory against Groveton in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 18-2 score. Do the Huskies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
