Baseball Recap: Floyd Central's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

Floyd Central had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past the Knox Central Panthers 11-3 on Wednesday. Considering the Jaguars' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Mason Anderson was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has become a key player for Floyd Central: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Anderson was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Jace Martin and Luke Gibson did most of the damage at the plate: Martin scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while Gibson scored a run and stole four bases while going 1-for-2. Martin is becoming a predictor of Floyd Central's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 1-5 when he doesn't). Barrett Williams also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Floyd Central's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Knox Central, they dropped their record down to 1-6 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Floyd Central will host Pike County Central at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Knox Central, they will welcome Batavia at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
