Wheeling Central Catholic falls despite strong effort from Kaitlyn Blake

Recap: Wheeling Central Catholic Maroon Knights vs. St. Marys Blue Devils

The Wheeling Central Catholic Maroon Knights suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They were the victim of a tough 76-53 defeat at the hands of St. Marys. Wheeling Central Catholic has not had much luck with St. Marys recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Despite the loss, Wheeling Central Catholic still got an impressive performance from Kaitlyn Blake, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds. Blake is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Bella Fitzsimmons was another key contributor, scoring nine points.

Leading St. Marys to victory were Breanna Price and Addie "r" Davis. Price scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and six steals, while Davis scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and seven steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Price has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Callie Powell, who scored 15 points along with five assists and three steals.

Wheeling Central Catholic's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-3. As for St. Marys, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wheeling Central Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Shadyside at 1:30 p.m. on January 6th. Shadyside is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for St. Marys, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Magnolia at 7:30 p.m. Magnolia will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps West Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 116th, while St. Marys is ranked 16th).
