Softball Recap: Scranton Prep Comes Up Short

Scranton Prep had lost 12 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-11 to make it 13. They lost 11-0 to the Abington Heights Comets. The Cavaliers were not able to make up for their loss to the Comets from their previous meeting back in May of 2025.

As for Abington Heights, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 12-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.

For Abington Heights' part, Brianna Bustos made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Bustos has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Eva Kane was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple. Isabella DeRiggi also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Looking ahead, Scranton Prep will welcome Valley View at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Cavaliers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Abington Heights, they have already played their next matchup, a 12-0 victory against Canandaigua Academy on the 2nd.
