Softball Recap: El Campo Ricebirds vs. Fredericksburg Billies
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact El Campo can now relate to. They fell just short of the Fredericksburg Billies by a score of 5-3 on Friday. The Ricebirds have struggled against the Billies recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.
Kamryn Mears put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Mears wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Carlee Bubela, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
El Campo's loss dropped their record down to 23-9-1. As for Fredericksburg, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 16 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 24-9 record this season.
El Campo does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Fredericksburg, they will take on Calallen on Saturday. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their 18th straight win, something the Billies surely won't give up without a fight.
