Basketball Recap: Madonna Takes a Loss

Madonna and Clay-Battelle squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Madonna had to settle for second. They took a 66-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Clay-Battelle Cee-Bees. The Blue Dons have struggled against the Cee-Bees recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meetings.

Clay-Battelle was led to victory by Cooper Payton and Preston Luzader. Payton shot 50% from the field on his way to 30 points in addition to six boards and three steals, while Luzader dropped a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Luzader has been hot for a while, having posted 17 or more points the last 20 times he's played. Braden Ponceroff was another key player, putting up ten points along with eight rebounds and six assists.

Madonna's defeat dropped their record down to 7-17. As for Clay-Battelle, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-6.

Madonna does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Clay-Battelle, they will host Parkersburg Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Parkersburg Catholic's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matchups.
