Softball Game Preview: Sherando Warriors vs. Millbrook Pioneers

Sherando and Millbrook are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Warriors will welcome the Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sherando has nine straight victories, Millbrook has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Friday, Sherando beat Liberty 5-1. That's two games straight that the Warriors have won by exactly four runs.

Aubrey Weir spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sophia Zimmerman, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigael Rinker, who went 3-for-4 with one run.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Millbrook's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of James Wood on Friday. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Pioneers were not able to get on the board.

Sherando's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Millbrook, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
