Baseball Recap: Living Word Lutheran Triumphs

Living Word Lutheran and Catholic Central pushed the score to 22-0 the last time they played Catholic Central, but on Tuesday defenses reigned supreme. The Timberwolves narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Hilltoppers 3-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Timberwolves also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Easton Oliver made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Oliver wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kaden Weissenburger, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits Weissenburger has posted over his last 11 games.

Living Word Lutheran pushed their record up to 11-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Catholic Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 11 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-14 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Living Word Lutheran will venture away from home to take on Racine Lutheran/Prairie at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Catholic Central, they will head out to face off against Luther Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
