The biggest upset of the week belonged to Freeport, who took down 107th ranked Burrell, 26-7. Brendan Lynch threw for 111 yards and one touchdown and ran for 138 yards in the win.
The Yellowjackets' Lynch recorded the longest rushing play in WPIAL AA Allegheny this season in his game against the Bucs last week.
Justin Retzer was the best wideout in the league this week as Ford City lost to Kittanning. Retzer tallied three receptions for 68 yards. Devan Willyard helped Ford City's passing attack out by catching three balls for 26 yards.
Kyle Whipple put up the best numbers through the air as East Allegheny fell to Shady Side Academy. He finished with a total of eight completions for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Whipple's favorite target this week was K.J. Marshall, who caught three passes for 53 yards.
The Wild Cats' Whipple and Shawn Adair have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Whipple has thrown for 1131 yards this season, while Adair, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 21 catches for 481 yards. Freeport's Lynch leads the league in rushing yards with 623.
A big matchup in WPIAL AA Allegheny this week will be when the Sabers take on Burrell. As it stands, Ford City is in eighth, while Kevin Horwatt's team is in second.
There should be lots of points scored when East Allegheny and John Gaillot's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Jason Ruscitto's team comes in having scored 127 this season, while the Yellowjackets have scored 152. The Wild Cats scored 20 points last week as they lost to the Indians.
Deer Lakes was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in the league. The Lancers defeated Summit Academy 18-14 earlier in the week.
