Softball Recap: Good Hope Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Good Hope). They were the clear victor by a 21-5 margin over the East Lawrence Eagles on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Raiders sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.

Kylee Smith and Lizzy Steed did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and two doubles, while Steed scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Steed a new career-high in triples (two). Maggie O'Neil was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.

Good Hope hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive games.

Good Hope pushed their record up to 11-5-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for East Lawrence, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-13.

Coming up, Good Hope will be taking part in a tournament against Chelsea at 8:00 a.m. on Monday. As for East Lawrence, they will head out to challenge Cullman at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. East Lawrence has given up an average of 10.1 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
