Softball Recap: Plainwell Takes a Loss

Plainwell had lost four straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 10-26 to make it five. They fell just short of the Burr Oak Bobcats by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Trojans have suffered since April 17th.

Plainwell saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tatum Johnson, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

As for Burr Oak, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games.

On Burr Oak's side, Brooklynn Root was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Root has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Braylyn Hernandez was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Elaine Holtom, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Coming up, Plainwell will challenge Parchment at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Burr Oak, they will host North Adams-Jerome at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
