Basketball Recap: Monticello Takes a Loss

Monticello lost against Albemarle back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Monticello Mustangs lost to the Albemarle Patriots on the road by a 63-45 margin. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 375th, while the Patriots are ranked 185th).

Despite the loss, Monticello saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Stella Snoddy posted 12 points. The dominant performance gave Snoddy a new career-high in points. Caroline Fowlkes was another key player, putting up seven points.

This is the second loss in a row for Monticello and nudges their season record down to 2-8. As for Albemarle, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-7.

Monticello has already played their next game, a 47-27 defeat against James River on the 18th. As for Albemarle, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 70-36 loss against Charlottesville on the 20th.
