Volleyball Recap: Wink Wildcats vs. Alpine Bucks

After flying high against Fort Davis on Tuesday, Wink came back down to earth. The Wildcats fell just short of the Alpine Bucks by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bucks this season, with their most recent loss being a 2-0 defeat two weeks ago.

Wink started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 23-25, 14-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-12.

Adelynn Thompson paced Wink's offense, picking up 17 kills. Thompson got some help from Lailah Solis and her 38 assists. Kaylee Jones controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Leading Alpine to victory were Karolina Castillo and Naida Morris. Castillo had 27 digs and four aces, while Morris had ten digs and two aces. That's the most aces Morris has posted since back in November of 2024. Zariah Galvan was another key player, getting 17 digs and one assist.

Wink's loss dropped their record down to 16-13. As for Alpine, they moved to 6-9 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Wink and Alpine could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Wildcats will face off against Andrews at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (512 vs. 137). Meanwhile, Alpine (ranked 649th) will meet Lubbock Christian (ranked 153rd) at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
