Baseball Recap: Oak Lawn Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Nazareth Academy, Oak Lawn was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They blew past the Argo Argonauts 14-1. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Spartans as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

John Olejniczak was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). He has become a key player for Oak Lawn: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-9 otherwise. Olejniczak was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high.

Olejniczak wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Justin Canvin, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Canvin is becoming a predictor of Oak Lawn's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Jackson Hilger was another, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1.

Oak Lawn was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Argo only posted a batting average of .167.

Oak Lawn's record now sits at 5-9. As for Argo, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Oak Lawn will have a chance to go back-to-back against Argo: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
