Volleyball Recap: Damien Spartans vs. Chino Hills Huskies
Damien was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 3-0 to the Chino Hills Huskies. If the Spartans were looking for revenge after losing 3-0 to the Huskies when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
While Damien was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the third set. The final score came out to 25-15, 25-11, 25-22.
Alex Pilarz paced Damien's offense, picking up eight kills. Pilarz got some help from Darren Chen and his 12 assists. Chen also made an impact serving: he shared the team lead in aces with Dylan Kelchner, racking up two apiece.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chino Hills to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sean Spicer, who had 15 kills, seven digs, three blocks, and two aces. Spicer is crushing it when it comes to kills: he's had at least six every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Anthony Sabbara, who had four digs, two blocks, and two aces.
Damien's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Chino Hills, they pushed their record up to 6-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.
Coming up, Damien will square off against Southlands Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Chino Hills, they will challenge Elsinore at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
