The Foothills Christian Knights will take on the Canyon Hills Rattlers in a tournament on Thursday. Foothills Christian's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Canyon Hills' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Foothills Christian had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt High Tech CV on Tuesday. Foothills Christian blew past High Tech CV 12-1. The Knights not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 1, 2024.
Johannes Jansen Granillo made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Jr Merino was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, six RBI, and two runs. Those RBI marked the first that he brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Jack Morgan, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Foothills Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as High Tech CV only posted an OBP of .241.
Meanwhile, Canyon Hills had to endure an eight-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. Neither they nor Chula Vista could gain the upper hand on Tuesday so the two teams had to settle for a 2-2 tie.
With that tie, Canyon Hills' record moves to 0-2-1. As for Foothills Christian, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Foothills Christian's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. Foothills Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Canyon Hills, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Foothills Christian continue to outrun the ball?
