Recap: Southern Wayne Saints vs. Hunt Warriors
The Southern Wayne Saints were the 57-52 winner over the Hunt Warriors when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Southern Wayne took a 68-52 bruising from Hunt on Thursday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Southern Wayne has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Southern Wayne still got an impressive performance from Jayden Hardy, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Hardy has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kairel Evans, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Austin Joyner continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Hunt, scoring 20 points. Drew Pittman was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Southern Wayne has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Hunt, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southern Wayne will take on Smithfield-Selma at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Smithfield-Selma is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for Hunt, they will stay at home for another game and welcome South Johnston at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th.
